Foldable Front Freight
FFF (Foldable Front Freight) is a foldable front rack for the Brompton bike, designed with Sebastian Martinez as part of a Parsons × Brompton collaboration. Mounted to the front carrier block, it carries everyday objects under 10 kg in many shapes, then folds away with the bike for life in New York City.
FFF — Foldable Front Freight In collaboration with Sebastian Martinez · Parsons × Brompton Bicycle
Developed as part of a collaboration between Parsons School of Design and Brompton Bicycle, FFF looks at how one of the world’s most iconic folding bikes can better serve life in New York City, where every trip runs into the same problem: how to carry what the day requires.
Working with Sebastian Martinez, we focused on the Brompton’s front carrier block, a small mounting point with a lot of unused potential. The result is a foldable front rack built to carry everyday loads under 10 kg in many shapes, from a basketball to groceries to a work bag.
The frame is made of aluminum tubing wrapped in woven black webbing. The webbing grips the load and cushions it, and it’s interrupted by bare silver bands that show the structure underneath. Bright red fittings tie the rack to the Brompton’s signature color, and a detachable red textile carrier with a front pocket holds smaller items. When it isn’t needed, FFF folds flat with the bike, keeping the compact footprint that makes a Brompton work in the city.
FFF adds utility to the Brompton without compromising what makes it a Brompton, one fold at a time.
