Outdoor coffee table with storage
Sintesa is a low outdoor coffee table with a wide teak top resting on a hand-woven drum. The open, chequered weave of synthetic rattan lets light and air pass through the base. Built on an aluminium frame.
The story
The table is two simple forms, one above the other. A broad circular top of solid teak slats overhangs a narrower cylindrical base, giving the table a light, lifted look, as if the top were floating over the weave.
The base is woven by hand in an open basket pattern, with two tones of cord crossing to create a lattice that changes with the light and casts patterned shadows on the floor.
Inside, the base holds lift-off-top storage for cushions, throws, or outdoor essentials. The open weave and slatted top let water drain and air move, so nothing stored inside stays damp. The cord can be woven in custom colours.
The table starts from Indonesia’s rattan weaving tradition: baskets, lanterns, and furniture woven by hand, open and breathable for a tropical climate. Natural rattan, though, doesn’t last long in sun and rain. Sintesa keeps the hand and the pattern but changes the material, so the craft can live outdoors.
